George Combs of Wilkes Co in the State of N Carolina who was a private in the regiment commanded by Capt Brevard of the 1st Reg NC Line, for the term of one year.
Inscribed on the Roll of North Carolina at the rate of 8 dollars per month, to commence on the 18th day of Sept, 1818.
Certificate of Pension issued the 18 of Apr 1820 and sent to the Honl M Stokes, Senator US.

September Term 1818
On this ____ day of September AD 1818 personally appeared before me, George Combs aged fifty seven years, resident in the county of Wilkes and state aforesaid who being duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress entitled An Act to Provide for Certain Persons Engaged in the Land & Naval Service of the United States in the Revolutionary War; That he the said George Combs enlisted in Captain Brevards Company of Regulars in the North Carolina Line some time in the month of May in the year 1780 or 1781 but which this deponent does not recollect. That shortly after enlistment that he was marched from Salisbury in North Carolina to ninety six in South Carolina and was engaged in the Seige of that place under Major General Green. That after ninety six was relieved by British force under Lord Rowdon he was marched to Salisbury where he remained for some time and thence was marched back to South Carolina and actually engaged in the battle fought at Eutaw Springs. That he was actually in the service of the United States for the space of twelve months and was discharged at Salisbury in North Carolina his term of enlistment having expired. This deponent further states that he does not know what became of his discharge and that he is in rduced circumstances and stands in need of assistance from his country for support

In addition to the foregoing it appears to the affidavit of Alexr Richardson who is likewise an applicant, that the said George Combs did serve as before stated in his declaration - and it further appears that this applicant is very poor, has a small family & is ruptured in the belly & able to do but little work, and he has a small part of poor land & some little stock.

I, Walter R Lenoir, clerk of the Superuor Court of Law for the County of Wilkes, do hereby certify that the Honorable Henry Leawill, who hath subscribed the above affidavit and certificate is one of the Judges of the Superior Courts of Law & being of Equity in the State of North Carolina and is the Presiding Judge of ___. In addition to the annexed declaration made on the 18th of September, 1818 before the Honble Henry Leawill one of the Judges of the Superior Courts of Law and Equity for the State of North Carolina, the said applicant George Combs has this day appeared before the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions opened and held for the County of Wilkes and first being duly sworn according to law deposeth and saith as follows viz; "That he entered the service of the Untied States on the 10th day of May 1781 in the company commanded by Capt Alexander Brevard of the 1st Regt of the North Carolina twelve months term and that he continued in service til his time expired."
The said applicant further states that on more mature reflection he was discharged in the following manner viz; "That the time for which he entered the service having expired the Captain was about to march back to Salisbury North Carolina for the purpose of discharging men under his command; that provisions having become scarce on the way the men were permitted to take their discharges at any time during the march as they thought proper; that while on the road upon the return march as aforesaid he obtained his discharge in regular form; that the discharge has been out of his possession for several years and he is now unable to procure the same.

I, Thomas Fletcher, chairman of the County Court of Wilkes as aforesaid do hereby certify that is appears to my satisfaction the above named applicant George Combs did serve in the Revolutionary War as stated in the preceding declaration; and that it further appears to my satisfaction from the testimony of respectable witnesses, the neighbours and acquaintances of the said George Combs, that he is in indigent circumstances and ____

August 1st AD 1820
On this 1st day of August 1820 personally appeared in open court for the County of Wilkes aforesaid George Combs aged sixty years residing in the said county of Wilkes in the State of North Carolina who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary Army as follows to wit; that he enlisted in Captain Alexander Brevards company of the North Carolina regular troops on the second Battallion of the _____ Regiment of the North Carolina Line on the Continental Establishment; that he served in the said regiment twelve months; was at the seige of ninety six and at the Battle of Eutaw Springs, both in South Carolina and that after his term of service was out he was discharged in near Salisbury in the State of North Carolina aforesaid and that his certificate for pension bears the date the 18th day of April 1820 number 16720 and his original declartion the ___ day of ____ AD 18??
And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled "an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War" passed the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities, contracts or debts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed viz; one huundred acres of poor land on Garrison Creek in Wilkes County assessed for the direct tax to the United States to one hundred dollars - one horse mare fifteen years old - two cows and two year old calves - two plows - one ax and one hog - five ducks and some few poultry worth in the whole $150.

This deponent further states that he was raised to the occupation of working on a farm and has no other trade; that he is unable to work sufficiently for a maintanance by reason of a rupture in the lower part of the belly for which he has been compelled for four years past to wear an iron brace weighing one pound and six ounces ____ of the ____ and both appendages; That he has a wife named Anne aged about fifty one years & very weak and feeble from almost continual minstruel evacuation; that he has one child only living with him for two years past; that he is about eleven years old & small of his age, not capable of rendering any effective assistance in support of himself and that he has one grandchild living with him a boy aged about six years much injured by having been burned accidentily when three years old, and that he has no other family living with him; that he has two daughters, both married and living with their husbands, and that he has no other children than those before mentioned; that his sons name is Basil Combs and his grandsons name is Fielding Combs.
